​Martin Luther King Economic Development Corporation (MLKEDC) is a non-profit organization established in 1975 to serve the residents of Liberty City, Florida.

 

MLKEDCs revitalization efforts in our community have breathed new life into every corner, making it an ideal place to work and live. Through thoughtful planning and community engagement, we have transformed once neglected areas into vibrant hubs of activity.

 

Our streets are now lined with thriving businesses, offering job opportunities and economic stability to our residents. The green spaces have been revitalized, providing a breath of fresh air and a sense of serenity amidst the hustle and bustle of urban life. Educational institutions have flourished, ensuring that our youth have access to quality education, and health services have been expanded to enhance the well-being of all.

 

Our community has become a melting pot of cultures, fostering inclusivity and diversity. By prioritizing sustainability, safety, and a strong sense of belonging, we have not just revitalized our community; we have made it an exemplary place to call home, attracting new residents and businesses alike. The commitment to this ongoing journey of improvement ensures that our community remains a shining example of progress and prosperity for years to come.

OUR PURPOSE.

To ADVOCATE for and assist in the development of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and the Liberty City Community 

​

To financially SUPPORT or conduct revenue generating businesses.

​

To IMPROVE the economic, educational, and social levels of underserved residents of the Liberty City 

​

To PROMOTE the elimination of racial tensions, prejudice, discrimination, and economic inequalities 

​

To PROVIDE information and to advocate for adequate low-cost housing in the target area 

​

To ASSIST and support corporations and organizations organized for charitable, scientific, or educational purposes 

​

To CULTIVATE low-income housing and engage in housing production to improve the living conditions of Liberty City residents

MLK BUSINESS CENTER.

MLK Business Center located on Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd., provides opportunities for business ownership, employment, and valuable services to families and individuals in the Liberty City community. Businesses occupying the space in the Business Centers include: EDUCATION - MEDICAL - LEGAL‍

 

MLKEDC offers free, limited legal advice and services to qualifying individuals and businesses living and operating within Liberty City. Legal services are offered through a partnership with the Law Office of Amina M. McNeil, ESQ. 

 

The MLK Business Center is home to six(6) businesses with 100% occupancy; five (5) ofthe businesses minority owned.All of the businesses located @ the MLK Business Center survived the economic downturn brought on by the pandemic.

 

All of the businesses remained current with their lease agreements. Two of the businesses provided essential services offering life saving dialysis treatments and medical services that included free Covid testing and to date all of the businesses have returned to providing in personservice.

 

Complimentary fax and notary public services are provided to assist with the employment and business needs of residents of the community.
